Have you thought or heard that hypnosis is just stage tricks and mind games? You're not alone. As a Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT) practitioner, I hear that all the time.
Let’s be real — most people’s first idea of hypnosis comes from TV: a guy in a tuxedo swinging a pocket watch and saying, “You’re getting very sleepy…” No wonder people are skeptical.
But here’s the truth: hypnosis isn’t a gimmick. It’s a well-studied tool that’s helping real people — every single day. I’ve seen it shift mindsets, reduce physical symptoms, and help people break free from patterns they’ve been stuck in for years.
Does hypnosis work? I don't expect you to just take my word for it. Even the American Psychological Association (APA) stands firmly behind the science of clinical hypnosis. The APA cites studies that show that hypnosis can be a powerful tool for editing consciousness. Let's talk about it.
Why Does Hypnosis Work?
Hypnosis doesn't work because it's putting us under a spell or letting someone control our minds. Hypnosis uses brain waves to induce a state of focused attention and heightened suggestibility that allows us to access the subconscious mind.
For the hypnosis practitioner, it's like turning a dial that allows us to quiet the loud, distraction-rich conscious mind in order to let the authentic, muted subconscious mind come to the forefront. This is where we can do work that alters thought patterns and unwanted behaviors. When our subconscious mind is freed and brought to the forefront, we can see the world without constant analysis and critical thinking blocking our creativity and the voice of our higher self. As a result, we can experience knowledge, new perceptions, sensations, and emotions that our conscious mind would have blocked.
Yes, Science Supports the Use of Hypnosis for Mental Health

From David Spiegel of Stanford University mentioning the benefits of hypnosis for pain relief to a 2025 study that found that hypnosis can help to improve quality of life for people with sleep disorders, hypnosis is getting its reputation as a safe, noninvasive, and effective tool to improve your life in so many different ways.
Most of the clients who come to me for healing hypnosis are dealing with anxiety, stress, depression, or a general feeling of being blocked in their lives. Also, a 2019 analysis of hypnotic interventions for depression symptoms found that hypnosis is an effective method for alleviating symptoms of depression. The analysis found that the benefits of hypnosis were comparable to well-known psychological interventions for depression.
